Iran Conflict Drives Swiss Electric Car Sales to Record Highs

Rising fuel prices since the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East have pushed Swiss drivers towards electric vehicles in unprecedented numbers.

Swiss interest in electric vehicles has surged dramatically since the outbreak of the Iran conflict drove fuel prices sharply higher. According to AutoScout24, Switzerland's largest car platform, searches for electric vehicles jumped 48% between mid-March and mid-April compared to the same period last year — up from just 8% growth in January and February.

The shift is translating into real purchases. Signed contracts for electric vehicles rose 40% year-on-year over the same period, with dealer enquiries up 69%. AutoScout24 director Matthias Bischof noted that many buyers had already been considering the switch for some time and are now acting, driven by the simple economics of rising petrol costs against falling EV prices.

Chinese manufacturers are also playing a role, with BYD opening a new showroom in Winterthur earlier this month as part of an accelerating push into the Swiss market.
